Last week I realized I left my lighter in my pocket and it went through the washer machine. I pulled it out of the water and use techniques I would have used on active duty and within about 30 seconds I had it Lighting on its own

Keep two or three intermidiate and a couple of end eyes in your kit and attach to your pole with tape. Then re use. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Good dual poncho setup. I’m ex military (‘70s-RAF armourer regular, 80s-REME armourer Territorial Army) and for lightweight backpacking long distance trails, I’ve used two ponchos (initially 2 58 pattern British Army till 2011 when they wore out then 2 surplus USGI woodland camo). Use one for rain gear and fairish weather overnight shelter, 2 for foul/cold weather shelter and I’ve adapted them to suit the terrain where I am. My most common setup is with them long ways, the studs running down the centre. I twist and fold the hoods up, loop the hood cords and cinch them up leaving enough ready to take the prusik loops on my ridge line. I have a wide diameter roofing bolt washer with a paracord loop through that, through the overlapping ponchos centre grommet ready to take my ridge line. Attach ridge line to a tree, about thigh height, connect 1st prusik loop to hood, pass through centre loop, connect 2nd prusik loop and tie off on a second tree or a guyed cut pole, or even just use guyed trekking poles. Then it’s just pegging/staking out the edge grommets. Half of the studs coming down from the centre loop making a doorway whichever side you prefer it. I’ve used this setup in gale force winds gusting around 50mph on exposed high ground and never been let down. I also use a lightweight bivvy bag to keep dry from condensation touches with the poncho and any drips that manage to get through where the ponchos overlap. In those conditions I place two trekking poles inside the hoods, restricts inside room, but is a more stable shelter.

You can take a wood screw and screw it thru the back side of the line from the inside of the outside wall . Then take a pice of wood screw on to screw and you have a handle to reel line up easier

Triangular Bandage. 40" x 40" x 54". Cut old cotton sheets like this. Make a dozen of em. Stuff em in every corner of yer ruck. Three or 4 in yer Med kit. They are useful if you know how to use them. Obviously as slings and swathes. You can bandage every part of your body with these. Tourniquets. Rescue harnesses. Key in an improvised Traction Splint. Essential in Field Splinting of any kind. Easy firestarting equipment if you keep it dry. This is cheap and what you need. Make a bunch of em, share em around, show folks how to use them and make friends. doc in Galveston

when ever I see the better bushcraft fishing rods like this I wonder about putting a hole in the spool sidewall for a knob and actually be able to use it as a reel but it really depends on the spool
